What do you want to accomplish this year? How do you want to view the world around you this year? How about what didn’t you cross of your list last year that is now on your list this year? That last one is me right now. Katie and I decided that if we are going to share our #bloggoals, then we should publicly state our personal goals too. We also got a little challenge for you at the bottom to join in! Please be our friend…
“It is important to ask yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing and what purpose it serves in the big picture”
– Miley Cyrus
Shelby’s 2019
- MINIMIZE – mentally and tangibly
- This year I want to focus on that which is worthwhile. I do not want to support businesses I do not believe in nor people who are draining. This for me means no more Starbucks due to their dismissal of the seriousness of plastic pollution and finally cleaning out the basement. I would like this year to be full of conscious thought and not mindless consumerism.
- Create A Capsule Wardrobe
- Focus on mindful pieces that are good for the environment and good for my budget. I don’t want to replace pieces or chase trends, nor have to think too long when getting dressed every day for work.
- Educational Growth
- This one is very direct: motorcycle license, read a book a month, and get my CPA license. We will keep y’all posted on the book reading part under the READ IT section.
- Financial Health
- Taking a harder stance on becoming debt free. My minimizing goal should help but I want to really identify where my funds usually go and how I can avoid them to pay off my debts faster. With this one I really need to plan but the end goal is worth it.
To set my intentions and remind myself of my goals daily, I have chosen a word: REFINE – to bring to a finer state
– Lady Gaga
“There can be 100 people in the room and 99 don’t believe in you but all it takes is one who does.”
Katie’s 2019
- This is really a hold over from last year. And even thought I did read 1-2 books per month I want to keep that going into 2019. I also want to make an effort to read out of my book comfortable zone.
- Make A Legit Fitness Plan
- Honesty time, I used to love working out and then I got an office job. And exercise took a back seat in my day. This year I really want to work movement back into my daily life. And make a commitment to myself to either wake up early to work out, go during lunch, after work, go to the park, try a new class, etc.
- Organize Everything, and Keep It That Way
- After watching Tiding Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix (like literally everyone else! LOL) I came to the realization I have too much shit. And so much of my stuff no longer “sparks joy” in my life. So I will be doing a major clean out and working to keep my life organized.
- Work On My Financial Fitness
- When it comes to money I really believe you have to be completely honest with yourself. If you think you are a “saver” and have nothing in your savings account and everything in your closet, girl you have a problem! Well, girl I have a problem! And 2019 will be the year that I really face my fears/denial around money, be strict with my finances, and pay off everything. Because I have big plans for life and you need money to do certain things like travel, buy a house, pay off your students loans, and plan for the future.
- Learn Something: Making Biscuits From Scratch
- Every year I make a commitment to not only do things to better myself but I also like to try and learn something new. This year I have decided to learn to make biscuits from scratch. Which I know sounds easy but, have you ever tried to do this? Some how it ends up being so hard and they turn out terrible! So I will try all the recipes until I perfect the biscuit this year.
When I look at all my intentions for the year one word kept coming to my mind: COMPLETE –finishing making or doing, or to make whole.
OK, so here is where y’all reading along come in. Think about what you haven’t accomplished in the past. Now think about one thing that matters to you. Do these two things align or are related? If so, think of a word that can remind you of these two things. Share your word with us in the comments below! If your two items are not related, try adding a few more goals, you may notice the word for you!
Cheers!
