Remember back at the beginning of the year when I said Complete was my guiding word? If you don’t you can read that confession here. Well this project was a long time coming. Like started it back in December coming. Yikes!
Inspiration…
While shopping at Target and Hobby Lobby in December. I kept coming across these pom-pom wreaths everywhere. After looking at them…and the price. I deiced I could 100% make them with spare yarn I had around the house. So instead of quickly spending $50.00 on a wreath, I spent a weekend making this. 🙂
What You Will Need…
- Hot Glue Gun
- Glue Rope (I like this better than glue sticks because it lasts longer)
- Craft Scissors or Fabric Scissors
- Foam Wreath (any size you want, I went with a larger)
- Pom-Pom Makers
- Mini Glass Ornaments (found mine at Target)
- Yarn
Step One…
Start making pom-poms…then make more…then make even more. Then when you think you have made enough…make a shit ton more. This part took me the longest and I kept having to go back and make more pom-poms. It become kind of therapeutic sitting on the couch, watching Netflix (Umbrella Academy or Good Girls anyone?), and wrapping yarn around the pom-pom maker.
Step Two…
I made my pom-poms with multiple scrap yarns and in four different sizes. So once they were all done I started with the largest size first. I arranged them around the wreath and then hot glued them down. Next I just filled in the wreath until every part was covered. I tried to layer the sizes a little to give more of a 3-D effect to the wreath.
Step 3…
Once the entire surface, including sides because they will show when the wreath is hung, is covered in pom-poms you add the ornaments. I purchased these over Christmas at Target but you can probably find some on Amazon now. I wanted the wreath to feel vintagey so I went with rose gold, plain gold, and glitter ornaments. Taking the hanger part off the top of the ornament I just glued these around the wreath. I wanted to space them out so they felt like they had fallen naturally onto the pom-poms themselves.
Step Four…
Now just add a ribbon of your choice and hang in your house or on your front door! I feel like with the white and rose gold accents this wreath can be used for multiple seasons. I actually added mini-heart ribbon and light pink velvet for Valentine’s Day. And will probably change the ribbon and hang up for Easter as well.
So that’s one craft done from the list. Now onto the next thing that needs to be completed.
