Our January Book:
OK, admittedly we are a little behind on our write up of Books in Review. We did read a new book each month this year and they are some good ones! This post topic is one that will be reoccurring and is a goal of both Katie and I for the year. Read on for our BOOK FOR JANUARY.
You are a Badass – by Jen Sincero
I read this book in under 5 hours total and that is not because it was lackluster or obvious, because it definitely was not. This book is a NY Times Bestseller and really packs a punch. If you need to get over yourself and start doing the things you want to do and need someone to tell you what ya gotta do to get there, this is your book. Katie and I both read this one for January and it was a strong motivator for this blog.
Jen’s chapter titles like ‘Your Brain is Your Bitch’ and ‘Gratitude: The Gateway Drug to Awesome’, make this book not for the easily offended. But that is the beauty behind the book itself and the author. Jen is someone who actually turned her life around and did what she wanted to do. Her road map is not easy to achieve if you aren’t willing to look head-on to that which you fear. She even states that you can’t go into this book half-ass.
She offers a step by step guide to figuring out what you want to be. Some points are obvious. Like create a vision board and find the right kind of friends. Others can really challenge you like ‘Act as if’. Act like you already have your dream job, act like you are going to get invited to next years Met Gala, act as if Shawn Mendes is going to be your new friend! (that one is for Katie, haha)
Now I don’t want to give too much away with this one because the words you read really need to be a conversation between you and the pages. Not me telling you what parts were most meaningful to me. Is this one worth your time? YES! Is this one I am going to reread any time I start to doubt what I can accomplish or if I start to put that which adds value to my life on the back-burner? YES! Did this book make me want to pack my life up and move to the beach and figure out the rest later? Sure Did! But Jen ends this book with a coming back to earth chapter of all that you need to address and change to really find ultimate success. Now don’t worry, it all ends with “Love yourself: You are a Badass”.
So what are you waiting for? What is holding you back? What would you be doing right now if you had the money, ability, friends, resources?
Don’t hold back be “a badass” and go do those things!
