Shelby and I started this blog last year as a way to push ourselves creatively. Because we both work in fairly boring corporate jobs we found ourselves looking for more. More creativity, more baking, more travel, more crafts, more self expression, and most of all opportunities for more life.
We thought as our first post for 2020, a new decade, we would take a look back at our year and how we want to move forward with our blog. Take a read below!
January – June
In January we kicked off the year by starting this blog, LOL. Our theme and running Mantra for the whole year was “Be Brave” (you can read more about that here). Honestly it was scary to start putting out lives out into the world through social media. It was not something we had really thought about doing before. It felt daunting jumping into the world of “blogging” when there are so many other people doing it. But, we decided to follow our hearts and jump in!
February, we took a girls trip to Disney World to attend the “Epcot International Festive of Arts” with our mom, Aunt, and cousin. It was our first time attending the Festival and truly a wonderful experience. We will be writing more about Disney World this year so stay tuned, especially if you have never been lots of “first timer” tips!
March through June we just tried to soak up that Georgia sun before the humidity of summer kicked in. Explored our parent’s new “hometown” of Dahlonega were they officially moved this year. Oh, and Shelby graduated from Mercer University with her Masters in Finance and Accounting! And took a celebration trip to Houston to see one of her BFF’s Paulina. She wrote about her explorations here.
Sipping tea at the Goldrush Festival. Fall nights in Dahlonega. Chatting old school style at the Transit Museum in Brooklyn. Making our 2020 selections…health, happiness, and more travel.
July – December
We kicked off the summer by traveling to one of our favorite cities, Charleston, SC. If you have not been GO, literally GO NOW! We stayed at The Dewberry which might be one of the most beautiful hotels we have ever been too. Ate tons of food, saw tons of old homes, and made our own personalized candles. We concluded the trip spending time with our family at Kiawah Island for Forth of July.
The remainder of the summer was crazy at work, our busiest season. Leaving us little time for a lot of anything else. Fall was spent mostly in the North Georgia mountains. Watching the leaves change, checking out the Goldrush Festival, and preparing for Halloween. You can head to our Instagram to see our many looks of Halloween 2019.
Right before Thanksgiving we decided to plan a last minute/end of year trip to New York City. So the week before Christmas we spent a couple day soaking in the winter magic of the city. It snowed our second day and us southern girls were in heaven! NYC at Christmas-time is by far one of the greatest things to witness. Everything feels more magical and ripe with possibility. It was actually on this trip that we started talking about where we see ourselves and this blog moving forward. Which brings us to the future.
The Future
After a full year of blogging we learned a couple of things. The first being that this is a little harder and more time consuming than we thought it would be. Second that we were posting, or trying to post, about things that we were not really passionate about. So in 2020 we are getting back to the roots of what we wanted to talk about Baking/Cooking (Bake It), Reading (Read It), Travel (Travel It), Crafts (Make It), and inspiring others (Random Thoughts). We will be having some monthly recurring posts like “Weekend Baking”, “Short-Trip Travels”, monthly “Books In Review”, and some new ones that will be starting shortly.
We want to continue with the mantra of the blog “Be Brave” and push ourselves to do more of the things that scare us. Or that get us out of our comfort zones and into the world. Thanks for following along this last year and hope you will continue to join us into the new decade!
